The Entourage Effect-How to Get the Most Out of Your CBD

Have you ever heard that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts? This is the general idea behind the theory of the entourage effect. “This is the theory that all the compounds in cannabis work together, and when taken together, they produce a better effect than when taken alone” (1).

Cannabis Components

Cannabis plants contain over 100 different naturally occurring compounds called phytocannabinoids, including some you probably have heard of like, CBD and THC. When ingested, these cannabinoids interact with your endocannabinoid system, which regulates functions like memory, appetite, mood, and sleep. It is through the endocannabinoid system that the benefits of cannabinoids like CBD and THC are produced.

Terpenes and flavonoids are responsible for the fragrance, taste, and appearance of plants (not just cannabis plants). Different terpenes and flavonoids are known to have different effects. For example, Limonene has a (you guessed it) lemony citrus scent and is known to be a mood elevator (2). On their own, terpenes and flavonoids and can provide therapeutic effects, but when combined with each other, alongside cannabinoids like CBD they are thought to yield greater results.

Forms of CBD: Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, or Isolate

Going based off the entourage effect we right away ditch CBD isolate.  CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD containing no other naturally occurring compounds or cannabinoids. While CBD isolate can still be effective, its effects may be less noticeable than full or broad-spectrum CBD. The main difference between full and broad-spectrum CBD is the presence of other cannabinoids (mainly THC). Full spectrum CBD products contain small traces of THC (usually .3%), while the THC in broad spectrum CBD products is non-detectible (3).

All Chillax’n CBD products contain a broad-spectrum formula. We believe in the synergy of the cannabis plant, which is why we don’t limit our products to contain isolates. Instead, we allow all the components to work together in the most beneficial way for you!
